Stops the conversation, goes silent, or tells the bystander they forgot what question to ask next. Following the flowchart step by step is fine, especially for new activists.

The give pair

Gives ammo

Sorry, I forgot what question I'm supposed to ask next. Hang on, let me check my sheet.

Gives nothing

Can you truly respect other animals if you use them for your purposes?

The round they fire back

Sees you stall or break character; treats outreach as awkward performance and disengages.

How to fix it

It is OK to follow the flowchart as a script while you learn. Do not stop the conversation when you forget. Do not tell them you forgot. Pause briefly if needed, then ask the next principle in your own words and keep going.

Coaching notes

  • New activists can use the steps as a script. The mistake is stopping or saying you forgot.
  • If you lose your place, recover silently: pick the next unanswered principle and keep asking.
  • Never announce you forgot what to ask. That breaks accountability and wastes their attention.
  • Same point, different words is fine. Robotic recitation is less harmful than going blank.
