Coaching notes

  • Purposes framing is binary and hard to dodge. Wrong framings invite debate and escape routes:
  • Benefit, lets them argue it helps the animal or society (tradeoff, not moral wrong), or that it's not for their benefit at all, addiction, habit, knowing meat causes cancer, guilt while eating.
  • Will, opens consent debates; they'll claim animals have no will, would consent, or can't consent, or point to broken animals (horses 'choosing' to be ridden) as if exploitation reflects their will.
  • Gain / pleasure, lets them say it's not for pleasure (nutrition, tradition, habit) and dodge accountability.
  • Interests, if you say 'against their interests,' they justify exploitation whenever they deem it in the animal's best interest (saved from the wild, humane death, farming gives them life).
